CANVAS FOR AN ARTIST

28/09/2017

Artist Shantha C or Shanthedathi as we all lovingly address, never stopped painting even though she struggled to make her ends meet. Her canvases were bought selling eggs and milk while living out of a dilapidated structure. At her first exhibition 10 years ago, the 63 year old self inspired artist hailing from Calicut became well-recognized for her paintings. With no technical education, her work showcased intricately vivid detailing and deep emotions that represented the unnoticed subjects around us.

Shanthedathi always spoke about her beautiful home which she shares with her sister but faced a problem of flooding during the long monsoons of Malabar. That's when Good Earth, supported by the IIA Calicut centre decided to help her. We decided to not only find a solution for the flooding but to also provide her with an art gallery where she can paint and showcase her work.

This September the keys were jointly handed over to her by A Pradeep Kumar MLA and collector U V Jose along with members from Good Earth and IIA Calicut.
